Where does the name GladdeningLight come from?

The name GladdeningLight takes its inspiration from the ancient prayer of Phos Hilaron (Greek, phos = light; hilaron = grace or gladness, the Greek origin of the word “hilarity”) to begin the daily office of Vespers in the tradition of the eastern church. It signifies a meeting point of night and day – an entry of light into darkness – providing us illumination of a canticle blessing along the way.

Is GladdeningLight affiliated with any religious denomination?

No. Though rooted in Christianity, GladdeningLight embraces an ecumenical, multi-faith path. All faith disciplines lead to the Godhead.

Is GladdeningLight New Age?

No. The principles of New Age are not typically rooted in ancient doctrine. GladdeningLight honors the revealing nature of scripture and humanity’s rediscovery of its ancient meaning.

What is meant by “where faith and art meet?”

God cannot be contained within liturgy, within four holy walls – indeed, contained at all by traditional religious practice. God is also found boundless at the convergence of the sacred and the secular in the germination of great art.

What do the terms Progressive Christianity and the Emerging Church mean?

Evangelical Christianity has dominated the spiritual landscape of late, incorporating a fundamentalist, literalist interpretation of scripture. Progressive Christianity endeavors to break free of narrow interpretations to perceive underlying truths. Many along this path refer to their journey as the Emerging Church.

Why are events so integral to GladdeningLight?

The digital world lends enormous opportunity, but true relationship may only be fully garnered through face-to-face human contact. This is why GladdeningLight remains focused upon events which bring their community together to foster relationship, common experiences of the aesthetic and ensuing spiritual growth.

How is GladdeningLight, Inc governed?

GladdeningLight is led by the four trustees on its board and is advised by a national council of artists and spiritual leaders. Everyday operations are under the purview of executive director and founder Randall B. Robertson.

Are the financial statements of GladdeningLight, Inc a matter of public record?

Yes. As a non-profit tax-exempt 501(c)(3) publicly supported charity, GladdeningLight subscribes to full financial transparency, open and available to the public upon request. Contributions to GladdeningLight are personally tax-exempt in accordance with the U.S. Government’s Internal Revenue Service code.
